The program offers an $8000 stipend and waives almost all tuition and fees for graduate assistants. Students who receive an assistantship work in the writing center and as an embedded tutor during their first year and teach composition courses in their second and third year. Most students are offered an assistantship. Students can supplement their stipend by working at the library, writing center, or in other campus graduate assistantships that suit their talents.
The program hosts visiting poets and writers who have individual conferences with students each semester. It is one of the only programs that offers the possibility of a concurrent MA in English without additional hours or cost. There are editorial opportunities with the McNeese Review and Boudin. Writing program faculty and graduate English faculty are accessible and enjoy working closely with students. The program is a tightknit and supportive community of writers.
