Assistant professor of English, specialty in poetry writing

The MFA program at Texas State University, http://mfa.english.txstate.edu/, invites applications for a tenure-track position in poetry writing.  The program’s permanent poetry faculty include Cyrus Cassells, Roger Jones, Kathleen Peirce, and Steve Wilson.  The successful applicant expected to maintain an active record of publication in poetry and to teach primarily in the graduate poetry program and to direct MFA theses, with some teaching of undergraduate creative writing.  Teaching assignment may occasionally include other undergraduate literature or composition courses.  Course load is 2/2 plus direction of at least four thesis students per year.  Reading of admission portfolios each January is also required.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
--MFA or PhD in creative writing, with degree in hand at time of application or completed by time of appointment
--Specialty in poetry writing
--One book of poems published with a national press

 Preferred qualifications:
--High quality publication(s) in poetry
--Evidence of potential for continued success as publishing poet
--Evidence of effectiveness in teaching graduate and undergraduate creative writing
--Evidence of ability to work with graduate students individually in directing MFA theses
--Evidence of ability to teach courses other than creative writing courses
